# Support Children’s Math Learning with Graph Paper

Oct 25, 2020 by

Many students in schools look for different ways they can psyche themselves into liking mathematics. It may be the use of number charts, pictures, or even flash cards.

Graph paper has made a difference in making mathematics interesting. Most people have underestimated how it has made a difference as a math tool. The paper has grids that make it easier to align numbers and symbols which helps when solving math problems.

Importance of using a Graph paper

Both as an educator and a parent, you have the responsibility to make the learning experience of a child to be fun and exciting. It is important from an early stage that a child takes mathematics seriously as a subject. Here are some of the reasons why this will make a difference in the education program.

• Helps in tracking the place values of numbers
• It is easier to use for any reason intended for (counting, fractions, decimals and number lines).
• Helps in understanding complex natural systems of numbers

The basics you need to understand when using the paper

As much as it is convenient for the teachers to use this math tool, it is key that students should use it in the right way.

1. Plotting data

During plotting of data, the simple thing in representing numbers is that there are two axes to name a graph (x-axis and the Y-axis). After putting data into paper, denoting the data will always be in pairs to mark the coordinates of a particular point example (3, 8). The first number represents the number on the X-axis and the second one represents the Y-axis.

2. Describing positions on the graph

Plots help in describing the data in the graph. Words such as linear, exponential and periodic effectively used to describe a line or a curve. Sometimes words like a negative, positive, increasing and decreasing show the relationship between a set of data.
