AMAZING WAYS TO GET YOUR KIDS TO LOVE SCHOOL

Mar 15, 2019 by

A lot of kids associate school with fear and hatred – not so pleasant emotions. But this does not have to be the case.

Whether your kid is just starting school and has been through a couple of grades already, getting them to love school is a crucial aspect in their upbringing.

Below are a few tips you can use to get your children to associate school with more pleasant experiences.

  • BE A ROLE MODEL

Children learn from what they see, not what they hear. Teachers from Jeffersonville Country Day School encourage their children’s parents to cultivate a reading culture among them. If you want your children to love reading, you also have to be a lover of books.

Parents who still study into adulthood send a positive vibe to their children – that learning is a continuous process.

  • MAINTAIN RESPECT

It is good for parents to respect teachers whether they like them or not.

Children should not sense disdain for certain teachers. Lack of respect from parents to teachers will send a message that it is ok to disrespect teachers; which is definitely the kind of attitude you want to instill in your children.

  • INVOLVE THEM IN EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Too much work with no play makes Jack a dull boy.

School is not all about books. Encouraging your kids to engage in extra-curricular activities will make them have something else in school that is fun to look forward to.

  • DO NOT OVER-SCHEDULE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

As parents, we want the best for our kids. We want them to have the best experience in school and we may be tempted to over-pack their schedules. Guitar practice, swimming lessons, acting classes and football are some of the activities we may schedule for our kids.

These activities are good for your child’s growth but may overwhelm and tire your kid making him detest school. Children also need time to rest.

Talk to your kid about what they want and cut off from their schedule activities they do not like.

  • SCHEDULE A HOMEWORK ROUTINE

Homework is a big part of the learning process. Through homework, the teacher is able to pinpoint what areas the kid is good at and areas they need to improve.

Let your child help you in selecting the perfect spot they are comfortable doing their homework from. Insist on them on doing their homework before play. Make it a habit.

  • SHOW INTEREST

It is very crucial for parents to show interest in their children’s school work. Make a habit of always asking your children how school was, what happened in school and about assignments. This shows that you value their school and their positive progress matters to you.

  • REINFORCE LESSONS

You should take a keen interest in your children’s school work. If you notice a particular area that your child excels in, make an effort to enhance it practically. If they are in kindergarten and they learned about animals, try and visit a farmyard with them so that they can practically see what their teacher was talking about.

There are other ways you can make your children love school but the above are the most important once. Your children may not be overly excited about going to school but practicing the above tips will make it more bearable.
