Withdrawal of sex ed curriculum leaves students unprotected: protesters

Jul 22, 2018 by

Protesters converged on Queen’s Park Saturday in support of the now repealed sex ed curriculum.

One of the organizers of the March for Our Education rally, Le Nguyen, 17, said immigrants often come from countries where the issues raised in the Ontario sex ed curriculum are not discussed in school.

“Proper sex ed is important because my 12-year-old sister who’s here today deserves to know that when a boy she doesn’t like asks her out, she has a right to say no,” Nguyen said.

“Proper sex education is important because my best friend who’s also a refugee deserves to know that he is normal and he is and will always be welcome here even though he loves a boy.”
