The Austin school board again will postpone a decision on renaming four schools whose namesakes had ties to the Confederacy, until after the Nov. 6 election.

Two of the four schools — the former John T. Allan Elementary and Zachary Taylor Fulmore Middle schools — were scheduled to be renamed Monday. But the board will delay any vote on changing school names until after members go through racial and diversity training, at the request of Trustee Ted Gordon.

Some trustees already have undergone similar training through a city program, but trustees are attempting to schedule a training session as a group.

“The board has committed to participating in the workshop,” President Geronimo Rodriguez said. “It will probably change the course of conversation.”
