What did we learn today, kids?

Trey Sanchez –

The “sole art teacher for Sherman Junior and Senior high schools” in Boone County, West Virginia, was photographed in her classroom by a student wearing a handmade “Tuck Frump” jacket with the letters in the F-word printed in white.

Cheryl Judy has been a teacher at these two schools for the last 13 years. According to the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Judy said she tried the jacket on for “about six to eight high school students” she described as “like-minded” to make sure the letters she pinned on the jacket were straight. That evening, she wore the jacket to a school board meeting and no one said anything.

“We had discussed this kind of stuff before,” Judy said. “They were not offended by it. It doesn’t really have anything inappropriate on it unless you read it the wrong way.”

But not everyone agrees. While showing the “like-minded” students, one of them snapped a photo and posted it to social media, something Judy naively said she never expected. A lot more people saw it and found it quite inappropriate. The school is currently deciding if any actions should be taken against the teacher.

Judy defended herself, hoping her job is not in jeopardy:

“I don’t try to push my ideas onto other people — my liberalism I don’t try to push onto other people, my religion, nothing. And I do encourage my students to speak freely about their ideas and their beliefs without criticism in my classroom because that is a part of art, to be able to express that kind of stuff.

“I don’t want to lose my job. I want to teach my students, but if I have to, I have to. It’s just a shame that students are going to be losing someone they care about and really cares about them, each and every one of them.”

Well, at least the “like-minded” ones.
