The last government shutdown occurred from Oct. 1 – Oct. 16, 2013. So how did the American people feel about it? Was there a huge backlash against the Republicans? Absolutely not… In fact, in a landslide vote in the Nov. 4, 2014 General Election, the voters made sure that the Republicans kept solid control of the House (Rep. 247, Dems 188) and took back the Senate (Rep. 54, Dems 44).
Why then is the Republican leadership led by Boehner and McConnell petrified at the thought of a possible government shutdown? They are spinning smoke-and-mirrors fears! They should be standing with Ted Cruz and others to require Congress to stop ramming through a spending deal that sends $528 million a year in federal dollars to Planned Parenthood to make it easier for them to sell babies’ body parts to the highest bidder.
