Compiled by Patty Crowe and Edited by Laura Wertz, this book contains the wisdom of the ages from various individuals who have impacted the teaching of children, our knowledge about the growth of children, and the importance of our children in our lives. All too few books reflect on what a child brings to our lives. All too few books help adults understand the need for children to play and explore, and all too few graduate classes and child psychology classes help us to understand the precious thing that we call childhood.One student said to me that ” those people who create those standardized tests must really hate children a lot “. Dietrich Bonhoffer tell us that ” The test of a morality of a society is what it does for its children”.  I might paraphrase this as ” what it does TO it’s children “.

Teachers, parents, and counselors need this book to get their emotional batteries recharged and their priorities adjusted. And of course the test construction people wherever they are, also need to read this book because as Jess Lair says ” Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded”.

All those who teach, parent, counsel and work with children need to read this book- and enjoy not just it’s contents, and wisdom, but the beautiful pictures that adorn it’s pages.
