A conservative walks onto a Catholic college campus …

The intolerance of DePaul University was on display again last week, when campus security threatened to arrest conservative commentator and speaker Ben Shapiro.

When the school’s Young Americans for Freedom  (YAF) chapter invited Shapiro to campus last August, the university banned him from speaking, claiming they could not guarantee his safety. But Emily Jashinsky of YAF tells OneNewsNow her group invited him back to challenge university officials.

“It just seems silly that someone as mainstream as Ben Shapiro, who is an acclaimed writer, he’s respected by people on both sides of the spectrum, that he wouldn’t be able to address those students on campus,” Jashinsky comments. “We wanted to challenge that.”

She says the entire incident — Shapiro entering the campus and being told he had to leave — was recorded and posted online.

“University administration threatened to arrest him if he took three steps forward,” the YAF spokesperson details. “That’s been viewed by tens of thousands of people around the world, and they are seeing exactly the intolerance of DePaul.”

In addition to the several dozen security guards on hand to enforce the ban, the sheriff’s office was put on alert. But according to Jashinsky, there were no protesters in sight.

DePaul University is the largest Catholic university in the U.S. and private institution in Chicago, serving nearly 24,000 students.
