Covid-19 – Trump Can’t Shake His Missteps -And His War on Truth

Apr 14, 2020 by

A healthy society cannot be built on lies. Instead, it must be built on a foundation of truth, facts, morals and science.

Yet, today our nation is wallowing in lies and mistruths emanating from the highest office in the land – from our President.

Since this pandemic began, the POTUS has ducked responsibly and attempted to shift blame onto everyone but himself. He has blamed nearly every one of his predecessors going back to George Washington. He has blamed China. He has blamed the WTO. He has blamed state governors, Democrats and bureaucrats. He has even blamed local hospitals and healthcare administrators.

As this AP story points out, Trump ignored the warning signs for weeks. On January 22, 2020, he should have known better than play down the threat posed by this new respiratory virus from China that had just reached U.S. shores in the form of a solitary patient in Washington state.

Instead, he said, “We have it totally under control.” Trump said instead, “It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

The key steps to preparing the nation for the coming pandemic were not taken. The die cast, truth has been covered in lies ever since.

President Trump has been painfully behind the 8 ball on the global pandemic response. When he has responded, it has been laced with mistruths, half -truths, and in some cases, bald faced lies.

The New York Times documents and reports, “Throughout January, as Mr. Trump repeatedly played down the seriousness of the virus and focused on other issues, an array of figures inside his government — from top White House advisers to experts deep in the cabinet departments and intelligence agencies — identified the threat, sounded alarms and made clear the need for aggressive action.”

And as The New Yorker points out, “From the beginning, Trump practiced ‘social distancing’ from anyone who told him what he didn’t want to hear. And here we are, playing a tragic game of catch-up against a virus that has killed thousands and left tens of millions unemployed”.

President Trump’s White House Coronavirus Daily Briefing is a misinformation campaign – a massive attempt to gaslight, mislead, and misinform the American people. The shear enormity of this crisis is a tsunami of our failure as a government, which Trump is supposed to be leading.

As a democracy, it is really the citizens’ responsibility to hold our government responsible and accountable for their actions and inactions.

President Donald Trump deflected blame for his administration’s lagging ability for virus testing Americans (STILL not adequately in place, despite his lies that it IS!). Instead he insists – without offering evidence — that the fault lies with his predecessor, President Barack Obama. “I don’t take responsibility at all” Trump said defiantly.

Trump’s war on truth – from the very beginning of his presidency – is coming back to haunt us all. At Trump rallies, his supporters cheer his lies about what a great president he is. They have bought into his ruse – lock, stock, and smoking barrel – of dismissing anything critical of him as “fake news.”

The President gives himself “a ten” for his performance fighting the virus and mocks and berates reporters who dare to ask a question that deviates from his narrative that everything is “perfect”. “You should say, ‘Congratulations! Great job!’ he told one reporter, “Instead of being so horrid in the way you ask the question!” He acts like reporters (and governors) need to genuflect and pour out praise to him before they have the audacity to ask a question the American people have a right to know.

Truth Is Truth – And Lies Are Lies

The Atlantic magazine chronicled the massive lies President Trump is spreading. In the month since he declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency, President Donald Trump has repeatedly lied about this once-in-a-generation crisis. This is unfinished compendium of Trump’s overwhelming dishonesty during a national emergency.

There is an old joke that captures this President well: “How can you tell if the President is lying.”  Answer: “If his lips are moving, he is lying and misleading the American people”.

The Washington Post has been tracking the President’s false, misleading claims since entering office. Since January 2020, the total is 16,241 – NOT including the majority of lies told around this pandemic.

Yes, I know the (TSLS) Trump Sycophant Lemming Syndrome folks will be screaming “Fake News!” and MSM (Mainstream Media or ‘Lame Street Media’), ‘Enemies of the People!’

Let’s instead consider: These are well-researched, documented facts and truths: as inconvenient as they are to the misinformation being spewed by President Trump and his supporters.

I await the usual crowd claiming I am just another Trump hater. I just wish for once Trump supporters would simply stop bowing to and defending the actions of their anointed leader long enough to study the evidence – This emperor has no clothes.

News reporting at the international, national, state and local level is helping keep people alive. President Trump’s supporters have been willing to look past what they see with their own eyes and hear with their own ears to conform with the fake reality being spewed by the POTUS.

In a democracy, we ALL have a responsibility to demand truth from our government.

“We Pledge Allegiance …”

This is America. We pledge allegiance to our nation, not to a King, or a “Dear Leader.”

As the presidential election heats up, let us all remember that dissenting does not equate to disloyalty. Dissent, free speech and freedom of the press is at the heart of American democracy – the very core foundation of our democratic values.

We ALL need to speak out when we hear lies. Do not allow yourself to be gaslighted. Do Not accept lies. Question authority. Demand the truth. Demand that the power we put into the hands of powerful leaders support our right to the truth.

Understand that a free press delivers. The Free Press is not the “enemies of the people” as dictators and autocrats throughout history have painted them to be in order to stay in complete power.

President Trump is stuck with his lying response to the coronavirus.

We need to hold the President accountable for his response to this silent killer. In his blaming others while denying his and our nation’s lack of preparedness and timely response, does not do a single thing to address the carnage running through our nation.

WHO (World Health Organization) Next in line for Blame?

The president is sure to throw the WHO under the bus this week in yet another attempt to deflect blame away from himself and on to someone else. Stay tuned. Trump said last week that he is considering pulling U.S. funding from WHO. Clearly, slashing the WHO’s funding in a middle of a global pandemic is not a smart idea. WHO has been and continues to be a vital tool in helping smaller countries, especially those in the southern Hemisphere, to combat the coronavirus in the coming months.

The President will continue to find people and organizations to blame right up until he leaves office.

Truth. Facts. Science.

Human collaboration and co-operations, timely communications – these are what are needed to extract us from the COVID-19 briar patch.

Ultimately there is no better way to remedy this situation than to Register and Vote. We do NOT want our LIBERTY to become HISTORY!
