Here is a little more information about the nomination process for CSCOPE review panel members.  If you go to the TEA website, there is now a separate link for the CSCOPE review.  It gives more details.  That link is

http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index2.aspx?id=25769804296 .  The timeline for the process is also linked to this website.

The link to the nomination form is open now:  http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index2.aspx?id=25769804296.

Interested citizens may submit a nomination form through April 29.  The CSCOPE Ad Hoc Committee expects to make committee assignments in May. The review panels would then work June 3-16 to review the material.

Re:  Corrections to KFDM Channel 6 News, “State Board Committee Examines CSCOPE”  — SB 1406 filed by Senators Patrick and Campbell

The only serious error I heard in this TV piece (KFDM Channel 6 News) was that review panels are reviewing 1600 lessons this summer. That’s not correct. That’s the TOTAL number of lessons for all of the subjects. For social studies, it’s 431 lessons and 141 unit tests that will be reviewed. There are 14 panels divided up by subject and grade.

The Chair’s ad hoc committee strongly recommended to the 3 ESC directors (who are on the ad hoc committee) to remove all links [outside resource website links] found in the CSCOPE lessons.   Ann Poplin, the CSCOPE state director, was also in attendance.  They will take this recommendation back to the governing body at the next meeting in April.

We also set up a calendar that will be made available on a new website for CSCOPE.  This site will be a link on the TEA website.  Now I am working on the specific things that the panels will be instructed to look for in the lessons and tests.

SBOE member Marty Rowley did an excellent job as chair of the ad hoc committee.  I knew he would!
