Cultural left has targeted education for decades

Dr. Kevin Donnelly –

As reported by Bruce McDougal in the Daily Telegraph this week, parents have been angered that Leumeah High School students are being indoctrinated by being made to write an essay based on the assumption that Muslims are excluded and not welcome in Australia.

Even though Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world, where millions of migrants from the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa and even New Zealand have been welcomed, students are made to think that Australian society is racist.

And Mark Latham is right to argue that Leumeah High School students “are the latest victims of the rise of left-wing politics in Australian schools” and that left-wing politics now dominate classrooms.

Since the cultural revolution of the late 60s when thousands marched in Vietnam moratoriums, Germaine Greer wrote the Female Eunuch and hippies wearing Che Guevara T-shirts chanted ‘make love, not war’, the cultural-left has targeted education in its long march through the institutions.

In Victoria the ex-Premier Joan Kirner argued at a 1983 Fabian conference that education must be “part of the socialist struggle for equality, participation and social change, rather than an instrument of the capitalist system”.
