VILLAGE OF HARTLAND – Students and staff at Lake Country School surprised a longtime janitor at the school with some exciting news on Monday, March 19.

Doc Stadler, who has worked at Lake Country School for the last 34 years, was named a top 10 finalist for Cintas’ nationwide Janitor of the Year contest, out of 3,284 nominations nationwide.

The contest aims to recognize custodians and janitors at elementary, middle, high schools and colleges and universities from across the nation. The winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize, and the school will receive $5,000 in Cintas and Rubbermaid Commercial products and services.

Stadler was honored by students and staff at a surprise assembly in Lake Country School’s gymnasium. The long-time janitor was touched by the event, and expressed admiration for the place he’s called home for 34 years.

“I just love it,” Stadler said. “I love kids. It’s fun to be around, to help everybody. (The) staff is really nice. I just enjoy it.”
