Grammy-award winning jazz bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding paid a visit to a group of music students at a Dorchester school earlier this week.

The Berklee College of Music grad and current Harvard professor visited one of the two campuses for Dorchester’s Conservatory Lab Charter School on Tuesday, where some approximately 440 students receive daily music instruction.

The school named one of its orchestras in Spalding’s honor, so when she visited, the artist was serenaded by music from the second grade members of the Esperanza Spalding Orchestra. Spalding also workshopped original compositions by two sixth-grade bass players in the school’s Leonard Bernstein Orchestra.
