Finland has always been at the forefront of education in terms of various evaluation studies. In terms of transparency, I should indicate for the record, that I have been to Finland six different times for six different reasons and have learned a good deal about the country.

Now, various news organizations are picking up and evaluating what the Finish people are doing in terms of educating their youth ( and adults ) in terms of critical thinking, higher order thinking, and now recognizing” fake news”.  For more information and to see how Finland stacks up against the rest of the world – see below- it is only a 3 minute video- but is packed with information and insights as to what the Finish school system is doing.  There seems to be a sincere concerted effort to teach their students to look critically at all information and to attempt to discern the truth or falsity of what they encounter. This is one of those issues that need to be, well, critically examined by educators, world wide.

Finland is winning the war on fake news. Other nations want the blueprint Russia’s neighbor has developed a plan for countering misinformation. Can it be exported to the rest of the world?
