Last night, actor Gary Oldman won the Academy Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his portrayal of Winston Churchill. This was a superlative movie that really captured the essence of the man, the time period, the issues that were confronting him, and the other things that were going on at that time period. There is one other movie that supplements or compliments ” Darkest Hour” and that is Dunkirk, which is quite often referred to during the movie.

Apparently Gary Oldman visited Hillsdale College and visited with Dr. Larry Arnn, the President of that college and shared some thoughts and feelings about his portrayal, which I would like to share here.

If you have not seen The Darkest Hour, and Gary Oldman’s portrayal of Winston Churchill, I would encourage you to do so–and to take your children- if you have any- to see the movie.  If you are ever in London, there is a tourist destination that will take you to and through the “war rooms” that aided and guided the British people through World War II.

Everyone involved in the movie deserves some recognition and acknowledgement for this monumental work.
