GUV ON SCHOOLS IN THE TOWN OF READING: “DON’T DO THAT”

Briefed by a teacher who lives in Reading about that town’s approach towards Race to the Top education standards, Gov. Deval Patrick said he would look into the situation. Lauren, who called into WGBH’s Ask the Governor segment Thursday, said the town’s school superintendent has sought to lower common core standards, limiting algebra.“Don’t do that,” Patrick interjected. He said, “You are right to push back on this.” Patrick said the state’s participation in the national education program was contingent on the agreement than Massachusetts districts “were not going to compromise any of our existing standards.” He said, “I’ll ask some questions back at the Department of Education.” – A.
