Henrico, VA Mother Organizes to Make Dreams Come True For High School Students

Dec 27, 2011 by

PROM BRING IT is the brain child of Jenny High, the mother of a Hermitage High School student in Henrico, Virginia. Jenny is also a member of Hermitage’s Parent-Teacher Association. She saw a need within the community as a result of the economic challenges that many families are experiencing throughout our nation.

She has organized a community-wide effort to give deserving young ladies and men of our community a night to remember by collecting gently used gowns, dresses, mens’s suits, accessories, and shoes that students can choose so that they can be “dressed to impress” for Prom Night.

For Jenny, her passion lies in fulfilling the dreams of high school students that want to attend their prom, one of the most monumental milestones in their lives, but may be unable to because of financial or other challenges that their families may be facing. She states that, “no high school student should miss the opportunity to go to their prom if they have a desire to go but do not have the means to go.”

Hermitage High School, located on the West End of Henrico County, has a student body of just over 2,000 students; one-fourth of them are estimated to be seniors. Jenny shares that Hermitage’s principal, Omega Wilson, and Coach Christopher Rollison are two of the biggest cheer leaders of the PROM BRING IT project, and that she is extremely pleased about their support in addition to the support of many community partners that have already committed to making the project a success for so many youth.

For Jenny, this is “all about the kids.” She is a one-woman army that is motivating those that are just as passionate and driven to make dreams come true for our youth that would not otherwise have the opportunity.

Presently, PROM BRING IT community partners have made donations consisting of everything from make-overs to hair cuts. The sponsors include:
