HISD trustees OK North Forest annexation

Jun 14, 2013 by

The Houston school board voted unanimously Thursday to take the official steps to annex North Forest ISD pending final approval of the state’s order.

The board agreed to assign the roughly 50,000 voters in the North Forest Independent School District into the two adjacent HISD trustee districts, now represented by Rhonda Skillern-Jones and Juliet Stipeche.

The HISD board also voted to change its boundaries to include North Forest, which is in northeast Houston.

HISD’s action does not guarantee that North Forest will become part of the district as the Texas Education Agency has ordered.

An Austin judge is expected to rule Friday on whether to grant North Forest’s request for a temporary injunction to halt the takeover on July 1.
