How to make homework more fun

Jun 6, 2019 by

Say the word homework and you are almost guaranteed to get some kind of moan or groan in response but it needs to be done! So how can we make it more fun for our children to do their homework? Oaks International, an International School in Cambridge, has put together the following list of ideas for us to try at homework time. Let us know if any of them work for you!

Take Part

Children of any age love to have one on one time with their parent/s and would benefit greatly from you sitting with them at homework time and working together. Not only will you get to spend some quality time and help your children with their school work you will also have more of an insight to what they are learning at school.

Learning apps

In this day and age smart phones and other forms of technology are everywhere; it seems we cannot escape them! SO why not use them to our advantage? There are some fantastic leaning apps out there to help you and your child at home work time, make sure you take advantage of them.

Use a sticker chart

A sticker chart is an affordable yet effective way to motivate your children to really put their all into homework time. Award stickers for completing work early, getting good feedback from the teacher or even for not moaning when you ask them to do it! When your child is at Primary School or Nursery this will work best!

Treats for good work

Some people disagree with awarding treats for homework but if it works for you and your children then why not have a cupcake or their favourite song on the radio at the end of their hard work?

Invite a homework buddy over

Everything is more fun with friends; why not let your child invite a friend over for tea? While you are cooking the dinner they can be working together on their maths homework or creating their latest science project together.
