# Importance of Learning Mathematical Notations

Mathematical notations are useful in all the fields as they help to express the mathematical problems using appropriate notations. It helps to define the problem statement in an exact and concise way. The notations may consist of symbols, variables, figures, and different arbitrary signs. Based on this, we can classify the notations into two different types, namely;

- Pure Notation
- Mixed Notation

**Pure Notation**

A pure notation consists of only one type of notation. It means that either it consists of Arabic numbers or Roman numbers. Pure notation does not have a combination of two or more types of notations. For example, 230, DC is a pure notation.

**Mixed Notation**

A mixed notation is a combination of two or more notations. It may be a combination of Arabic numeral or roman numeral. For example, QC1 is a combination of Roman and Arabic numerals.

Mathematics is purely dependent on numbers and symbols. Many symbols in Maths have predefined values. Without symbols, we cannot do Maths. Symbols are found in all the concepts, such as algebra, calculus, statistics, and son. Also, many **mathematical symbols**** **are used to perform arithmetic operations based on various ideas. Basic arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division can also be performed with symbols like +, -, ×, ÷. Most of the scientists use Greek symbols to represent the functions, variables, and so on. Using notations, we can easily recognize the type of operations, and it helps us to understand the concept quickly. For example, the sum of 2 and 3 is 5. This mathematical statement can be symbolically represented as 2 + 3 = 5, and it is the addition operation.

Mathematical notations are not only used in Maths, but it has a wide range of use in different fields like Economics, Engineering, Physics to compare the quantities between the objects. Various symbols in Maths enhance the understanding of mathematical statements, and it also helps to break the language barrier. Thus, notations are considered as a language of mathematics, and it provides the same meaning around the world. For example, Pi(π) is an important mathematical symbol, which has a predefined value. Pi is a mathematical constant, defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to the circle’s diameter. Pi value is approximately equal to 3.14, and all the Mathematicians use the same value in their work.

Mathematical symbols can be classified in many ways, such as basic symbols, logic symbols, Roman numerals, Greek Letters, and so on. We are using the basic Math symbols like a plus sign, minus sign, times sign, division symbol, __ greater than and less than symbols__ in our daily life activities. Roman numerals are found in books, clocks, etc. Other symbols like Greek alphabets, calculus symbols, and logic symbols are found in the higher-level mathematical concepts and other disciplines. Thus, by using different symbols, mathematical thoughts are explained in a very precise way, and we can say that the symbols are the fundamental need of Mathematics.
