Learning Piano Online? Here are Some Tips

Practicing how to play the piano is the best way to learn. If you want to become a pro in as little time as possible, here are some practice tips from Playground sessions:

Set a Clear Goal

When learning how to play the piano online, you might be lazier than usual because nobody is keeping you accountable. If you sit at the piano with an aim to play until you tire out, you will not get very far. You should have a goal in mind – for instance, you should start practicing with an aim to learn a specific song.

Just make sure that your goal is achievable within a specific period. When you set absurd goals, you will only be setting yourself up for failure.

Warm up

Although warm-up is boring, you should do it if you do not want to end up with tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome. You would be better off spending ten minutes in warm up instead of being in pain for six months. Warming up not only prepares your fingers for the keyboard, but it also gets you in the right mindset.

Slow Down

If you want to learn a difficult song, you should try doing it at half speed and then increase speed as you gain confidence. If you cannot play a song in time, you should not beat yourself up about it. Make sure that you slow down a complicated piece until you can play it perfectly.

For instance, if a song is played at 500bpm, you can play it at 50bpm as you begin. Once you master this speed level, you can speed up a bit until you reach the necessary expertise level.

Listen

You should be able to name your top ten pianists and if you cannot, you have not listened to enough professionals. You need to listen to other people to know what great sounds like because this will enable you to become great. You do not even need to try very hard to find good pianists; a simple YouTube search will unearth them.

Set Aside Time for Basics

The first ten to fifteen minutes of your time should be dedicated to runs, accuracy, and scales. You will only get technical skills by repeating things. You should set aside 15 minutes for basics in all your practices if you want to be able to play technical pieces.

Imitate then Innovate

After listening to your favorite artist, you can play the solos that you like and make them better. At this stage, you will find out who you are as an artist and what special skills you possess. You have an opportunity to go from being average to unique.

Take a Break

Once you spend time on warm up and practice, you should take some time to rest. No matter how important it is to finish a piece, you must take time to rest your fingers and clear your mind. Overworking yourself will be bad for your overall health and might affect your ability to learn.

Start and End with Fun

When you start practicing, make sure that you play something you love and end your day with one of your favorite pieces. Doing so will keep your confidence up and encourage you to keep playing. The most important thing that you should remember is that all the hard work you put into learning will one day be put to good use.

Playing the piano when you are great at it is the best way to make yourself and others feel better. When learning piano online, you should make sure that you pay attention to the lessons.
