(San Antonio, TX) On Monday, lifelong public school teacher and conservative Republican leader Lani Popp launched her campaign for State Board of Education in District 5, the seat being vacated by Ken Mercer.

Lani Popp has dedicated her life to serving children in our education system. Lani spent her early career with inner city schools in HISD as a speech-language pathologist and continued to specialize in working alongside students with social communication deficits and Autism. She presently serves public school students in Northside Independent School District in San Antonio.

Being a respected leader in her field she has presented at the Texas Speech Language and Hearing Association Convention, Texas Autism Conference, and the American Music Therapy Association Conference.

Popp commented on her launch stating, “We must ensure we have a strong, committed conservative voice on the State Board of Education. In Ken Mercer, we have a consistent advocate for all Texans in District 5. I will continue his legacy while bringing my unique background and perspective to the board. As someone who has spent time as a classroom teacher, a speech-language pathologist, and a conservative Republican leader I’m ready to stand up from day one and represent this District’s voice.”

Popp announced her campaign with the support and endorsement of Ken Mercer, the current State Board of Education member.

Mercer strongly endorsed Popp saying, “I know Lani well. I trust her. Conservative families need and deserve a strong voice on the State Board of Education. When deciding to retire, it was imperative to me to ensure a strong and principled successor. Lani Popp deserves the votes and trust of District 5, and I urge all of my friends and supporters to help lead her to victory in the 2020 Republican primary and general election.”
