Nevada schools band together to offer free legal services to illegal immigrants

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas recently partnered with the College of Southern Nevada in expanding on its immigration clinic. The UNLV immigration clinic is part of UNLV’s law school and offers free law services for DACA renewals and consultations with lawyers.

“The UNLV Immigration Clinic offers law students real-world experience providing pro bono deportation defense and is a community leader in protecting children and families in Nevada.”

As the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law’s page explains, “The UNLV Immigration Clinic offers law students real-world experience providing pro bono deportation defense and is a community leader in protecting children and families in Nevada.” The site also includes the types of cases they take on which include, “unaccompanied children and separated families, people detained by the Department of Homeland Security, and UNLV students, staff and their families.”

UNLV’s School of Law has also received a five-year donation of $250,000 from Edward M. Bernstein used to represent children and encourages other pro bono lawyers to follow. The launch of the new partnership was celebrated on Jan. 30 including prominent guests such as CSN President Zaragoza, UNLV President Meana, Governor Sisolak and NSHE Chancellor Reilly.

Zaragoza said, “…and this is one of those examples of providing services for a sector of the body that really needs it.”

A twitter post from a group called Make the Road Nevada advertised information on how to obtain DACA legal services through the university.
