“New Term Begins for Tex. State Bd. of Education Members”

It was an important day at the SBOE today because of the choosing of leadership positions and the changing of various organizational rules.

This was the first SBOE meeting since the Nov. 2020 elections. The four new SBOE members are:

Jay Johnson

Will Hickman

Audrey Young

Rebecca Bell-Metereau

Keven Ellis is the Governor-appointed Chair of the SBOE. He led the SBOE to discuss and vote on several new operating rules.

The decision was made to vote on the nominees for Vice-Chair and for Secretary in the order in which they were nominated.

A majority of the members present and voting elected Pam Little as the Vice-Chair, and Georgina Perez was chosen as the Secretary.

The TEA announced that Yolanda Walker had been hired as the new Executive Director of SBOE Support. Yolanda is currently a manager in the Financial Compliance division at TEA.

Each SBOE member was asked to list three choices of committee assignments in the order of preference. The Chair (Keven Ellis), Vice-Chair (Pam Little), and Secretary (Georgina Perez) met together to go through the requests and assigned the members to these three working committees. When each of the committees meets on 1.28.21, the members will elect their committee chairs.
