The head of the Pennsylvania Department of Education says a website should be up next month to collect public comment on aspects of the state’s new reading and math standards.

Acting Education Secretary Carolyn Dumaresq told the State Board of Education on Thursday the site should be available by Oct. 14.

The site will provide information about “eligible content,” or how the standards apply to classroom instruction. It will also give the public sample test questions.

Gov. Tom Corbett is calling for public hearings on the state’s Pennsylvania Core, a modified version of the Common Core standards that have attracted criticism.

The Pennsylvania Core standards were adopted last year. To graduate, students in the class of 2017 must show they understand literature, biology and algebra.
