Paid Liar

Jun 2, 2013 by

On Sunday’s broadcast of CNN’s “State of Union,” Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa took a jab at White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, calling the spokesman a “paid liar.”

Issa unveiled a part of his committee’s investigation that included interviews with Internal Revenue Service workers in Cincinnati who maintained the IRS targeting of tea party groups was coordinated out of Washington, D.C.

In light of those revelations, Issa took issue with the White House’s claim that a “local rogue” was responsible when the White House knew better.

“The whole transcript will be put out,” Issa said. “We understand — these are in real time. And the administration is still — their paid liar, their spokesperson, pictured behind, he’s still making up things about what happens in calling this [a] ‘local rogue.’ There’s no indication — the reason the Lois Lerner tried to take the Fifth [Amendment] is not because there is a rogue in Cincinnati. It’s because this is a problem that was coordinated in all likelihood right out of Washington headquarters and we’re getting to proving it. We have 18 more transcribed interviews to do.”

The California Republican said that despite the White House’s messaging, he believes documents will eventually show the truth.

“The president’s spokesperson is saying whatever is convenient at the time and the story changes,” Issa said. “What we have is people coming in to transcribed interviews. They’re saying under penalty of crimes that certain things are true. We have subpoenaed documents that would support that, that they say, emails that went back and forth. The administration is so far not providing those documents. As we get those documents, as we will get Fast and Furious documents eventually and so on, we will learn the whole truth.”
