a_wimpieWhile some of his more misguided colleagues are pushing bills to eliminate the MCAS graduation requirement and further water down education standards Sen. Richard Moore is doing the opposite.

Moore has filed a bill that would require passage of an exam that tests knowledge of U.S. history and civics as a requirement to graduate from high school.

We typically dislike the idea of lawmakers micro-managing education policy, for a host of reasons including that they’re just not very good at it. As proof take a look at Rep. Carl Sciortino’s pending bill that would forbid the use of the word “failing” to describe, well let’s call it “lack of passage” of MCAS.
