1.29.13 – Latest from Texas Sen. Dan Patrick – The CSCOPE public hearing in front of the Senate Education Committee will start at 8:30 A. M. instead of at 9:00 A. M. on Jan. 31, 2013 – Room E1.028 in Austin.

Sen. Patrick sent me word last night that he does not think the full Senate will meet on Thursday, Jan. 31; therefore, there should be time for the four panels and also for the public to speak.  He said that everyone who wants to speak will be allowed to speak and that the Senate Ed. Committee will “go until finished.”

I have to say at this point that I am very impressed with the fairness that Sen. Dan Patrick is exhibiting by scheduling this CSCOPE public hearing and also by the way he and his staff are encouraging public input.

Please do not forget that tomorrow, Jan. 30, at 10:00 A. M., the Texas State Board of Education is meeting to reorganize for the new term.  It is not too late to contact your SBOE member and tell him/her that you want Ken Mercer elected to the Executive Committee and not Thomas Ratliff.  The details are posted at:

It is also time to contact Sen. Glenn Hegar as chair of the Senate Nominating Committee and tell him that you expect his committee to confirm Barbara Cargill as the Chair of the Texas State Board of Education.  Sen. Hegar’s contact information is as follows:  512-463-0118; GLENN.HEGAR@SENATE.STATE.TX.US
