Six Ways Students Can Reduce Stress

As a student, it is common to feel stressed about school work or feel overwhelmed about your future, such as which university to choose or what career to pursue. The constant pressure to perform well can lead to feelings of stress and anxiety, which can have a negative impact on your overall wellbeing.

To help you feel happy at school and succeed in reaching your personal goals, St Chris have put together these six easy ways to reduce stress…

  1. Talk things through.

Talking about your worries with others is one of the best ways to feel better about them.
You may even find that the person you speak to is able to help you solve some of the problems you have. You could try talking to a friend or a teacher.

2. Take regular breaks

Allow yourself time to take a break in between your study sessions. This should be a time to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet.

3. Write down your thoughts

If you feel worried or stressed, it is a good idea to write down what is worrying you or list the tasks you need to complete. This will help you to clearly identify all of your concerns and allow you to tackle them one at a time. You will soon feel your stress levels decrease, as you begin to cross each one of your worries off of your list.

4. Create a healthy lifestyle

Eating well, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep can have a really positive impact on your wellbeing. Try not to get into the habit of TV binge-watching or late night revision sessions, as a lack of sleep can lead to poor concentration and even mental health problems such as depression.

5. Focus on your goals

It is easy to say, but try not to compare yourself with others. This goes for how well others are doing at school, or what friends or celebrities are sharing on social media. Direct your attention towards your own goals, self-appreciation and gratitude.

6. Make time for your passions

Try to switch off from any worries you may be feeling, by doing more of what you love.

This could be painting, cycling or performing arts. To help you make more time to explore and develop your passion, you could sign up for a weekly class. This will keep you committed to learning your new skill and you will also meet other people who share similar interests.
