Southern cities the best for minorities

With minorities soon to become the majority within the next 40 years, the Houston-based Center for Opportunity Urbanism analyzed the cities where Asians, Hispanics, and African-Americans are doing the best in terms of financial well-being.

Many cities in the southern part of the United States have the best opportunities for people of color, according to the study.

Overall, the cities that made the list aren’t necessarily the ones making the “best of” rankings because the COU factored in something different than just the cool factor.

“Most of the discussion today about cities is about being hip and cool and about tech,” Joel Kotkin, the executive director and the study co-author told Fast Co. “The think tank is really based on the idea that the most important issue facing cities today is really maintaining upward mobility,” he said in an article on the magazine’s website.
