STEEP, SUSTAINED INCREASES IN STD’S IN U. S

8.28.18 – CDC Announcement:  “The U. S. is experiencing steep, sustained increases in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s).”  — https://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/2018/2018-std-prevention-conference.html

COMMENTS FROM DONNA GARNER:  It seems that those multi-millions of dollars spent by the Obama administration to destroy/vilify/defund abstinence-only sex education programs and to replace them with contraceptive sex education programs have not been successful in reducing STD’s.

Other CDC stats show that 70% of the people diagnosed in 2016 with HIV are those who practice male-to-male sexual contact and/or inject drugs. STD’s are having a huge and terrible impact on the LGBTQ community.

Trump has dedicated more than $300 Million to try to get rid of contraceptive education programs and to return abstinence-only as the standard, but it is hard to root out the damaging sex education programs put into place during Obama’s eight years in office.

  • Last year, the number of STD diagnoses reported to CDC surpassed the previous record set in 2016 by more than 200,000 cases
  • 2017 marks the fourth consecutive year of STD increases
  • Since 2013, gonorrhea diagnoses increased 67 percent overall, and syphilis diagnoses increased 76 percent

Continued concerns about antibiotic resistant gonorrhea

  • Lab tests show a small but growing fraction of gonorrhea samples have signs of emerging antibiotic resistance
  • Over the years, gonorrhea has become resistant to nearly every class of antibiotics
  • Today, ceftriaxone is the only remaining, highly effective antibiotic to treat gonorrhea in the U.S.
