EL CAJON — Interns from Miramar College and High Tech High are helping restore a piece of the past while developing skills for their future this semester inside a hanger at Gillespie Field in El Cajon.
“It’s a once-in-a lifetime experience,” Genevieve Cindrich, 26, said about the hands-on experience she’s getting through the internship. ”You can’t put a price on it.”
Cindrich is one of two students from Miramar’s Aviation Maintenance Technology Program interning at Flyboys Aeroworks, where she is helping restore a World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighter plane for display at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.
The crew has been at it for 58 weeks and is facing a March deadline.
