Normandy – Reagan College Prep High School student Julia Brunson is seen at the Normandy American Cemetery holding a photo of Eugene J. Mlot taken July 1, 2015 at Mlot’s grave. Brunson and her U.S. history teacher Maggie Holtgreive were selected to represent Wisconsin in the National History Day organization’s program – Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom Albert Small Student and Teacher Institute. As part of the program Brunson selected a Milwaukee military member who is buried in Normandy, Eugene Mlot, a gunner in a B-24 shot down over France a few weeks after the D-Day invasion. Brunson traveled to Washington, D.C. for research of Mlot at the National Archives (where she was stunned to find his dog tags) and then went to Normandy where she delivered a eulogy at Mlot’s grave. – Photo by Maggie Holtgreive
