“Texans, Chance To Make a Difference: Elect Maria Berry to SBOE”

Texans, here is our chance to do something that will have long-term benefits for Texas and for our entire nation.

As most Texans know, the elected members of the Texas State Board of Education make vital decisions that impact every public school student and educator in the entire state.  It is these more than 5 ½ million students who will eventually lead our state and nation. I honestly cannot think of anything more important than for voters to make sure they elect qualified, principled leaders to the SBOE.

Here is why I am excited: Maria Berry is running for the SBOE (District 14).  She is a Black Republican conservative who is a strong believer in traditional values. Maria is a 3rd generation college graduate and an entrepreneur who has achieved amazing accomplishments through hard work and dedication.

Below is Maria Berry’s bio, and further on down the page is her campaign platform.

I have spent many hours vetting Maria Berry, and it is my honor to be able to recommend Maria Berry for the Texas State Board of Education.  Early voting begins Feb. 18, 2020.

MARIA BERRY’S BIO

Maria Berry is a former high school mathematics teacher who has also taught accounting and business with a focus on entrepreneurship.

Berry is an Executive Director of a local non-profit organization, is a Financial Literacy educator, and is an At-Risk Specialist with a Central Texas public school district.

Since arriving in Texas in 2007, Berry has worked for two public schools, served on advisory boards, and is an active community volunteer for the underserved population of Waco.

MARIA BERRY AND HER HUSBAND –

Berry holds a B.S. in Mathematics and a M.Ed. in Math Education; she is near completion of her Ph.D. in Instructional Design.

Faith is a very important part of her life, and Berry and her husband lead the marriage ministry for their church.  In her spare time, Berry enjoys crafting and traveling with her husband and children.

MARIA BERRY’S CAMPAIGN PLATFORM

IF ELECTED TO THE TEXAS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, I PLEDGE TO:

Work with the other Texas SBOE members to adopt traditional, fact-based, academic curriculum standards (TEKS) which, if mastered by students, will establish a strong foundation upon which they can reason logically and analytically.

Make sure that textbooks (including digitized instructional materials) are closely aligned to the SBOE-adopted TEKS (curriculum standards).

Take seriously the fiduciary responsibility of the SBOE to ensure that the Permanent School Fund is protected and is utilized to pay for students’ textbooks throughout all public schools (including charter schools) in Texas.

Help establish excellent training for local school board members elected by the voters in their ISD’s.  This training will help the school board members to be knowledgeable about state and federal requirements, to understand how those requirements may impact their own school districts, and to be able to communicate that information capably and efficiently to the parents, educators, and taxpayers in their local ISD’s.

Make myself available to the constituents of my SBOE District (14) to help them with their questions and concerns.

Do my best to see that every student in our Texas public schools (including charter schools) is given equal opportunities to achieve academic success.

===================

Because the 15 members of the SBOE make decisions that impact everyone in Texas, we all need to consider donating to the very best candidates regardless of the districts that they represent.

Campaigns cost money.  SBOE members serve without remuneration. If we really care about the leaders of tomorrow – the students – we will use our resources to elect the very best SBOE members possible.

She sounds wonderful. I have longed to hear of someone in the educational field supporting traditional math. I firmly believe if students are thought basic math and reading the leads to reasoning and application that they will have the ability to successfully choose their own path in life.
