The Education System Is Expanding Beyond Classrooms – and That’s a Good Thing

Feb 13, 2020 by

Education is one of the most rapidly evolving fields today, and we have seen multiple exciting developments in just the last decade. It’s not all tied to recent technological advancements either – although those have certainly been a major factor. More importantly though, we are starting to see a change in the attitude that people tend to have towards education, and many ideas of the past are being thrown out in favor of more contemporary approaches.

More Focus on What Kids Do After School

There has been a noticeable growth in interest towards extracurricular activities, and the benefits are already starting to show across all levels of the system. With organizations like Skillastics, kids can find engaging things to do after school without feeling like it’s a chore they have to get through. Meanwhile, the internet has helped bring kids closer together, and connect them with their peers with similar interests – something which has resulted in a serious growth in hobbies and similar activities among kids.

The Prevalence of Social Media and Its Impact

Social media used to be seen as a solely negative thing, and it was a taboo topic in educational environments for a long time. And, as we have recently started to learn, this has been a huge mistake in many ways. For one thing, it’s clear at this point that social media is beyond a passing trend, and it’s going to be an integral part of the lives of students from now on. With that in mind, it doesn’t make sense for schools to ignore its existence and pretend like it hasn’t changed anything. But what’s more important is that social media can actually bring a lot of good to the table, and some schools have already started to use that in creative ways to build an actual community among their students. It goes beyond Facebook groups – from subreddits to Discord servers, kids today are much better equipped to maintain their relationships outside of school at all times, and they are making good use of that.

What the Future Holds

More and more attention is being paid to the future development of the educational system, and it’s clear that we are moving towards some significant changes. Kids are obviously ready for what’s coming, and most of them actually seem excited about this transition. It’s important that we do our best to support this progress. The internet has done a lot to change the environment and make it more conductive to productivity, but this momentum has to be maintained in order to see true results.

The good news is that we are already moving steadily in that direction, and as long as people continue to pay attention to the crucial factors in the current educational system, we should be able to see some great results in the future as well. Hopefully everyone will be on board for that, one way or another, because it will be a significant cumulative effort.
