The Latest Update About The Ohio State Football Investigation Is Bad News For The School

Aug 7, 2018 by

Ohio State might have a problem on its hands because the school reportedly never spoke with Courtney Smith about allegations of domestic violence.

Assistant football coach Zach Smith, Courtney’s former husband, was recently fired, and an avalanche of old domestic violence claims became public. Head Coach Urban Meyer was eventually put on paid leave and an investigation was started. There’s just one more problem for OSU. Meyer has claimed he reported the allegations, but nobody from the school apparently ever interviewed Courtney.

Brett McMurphy, the man responsible for breaking the story, tweeted late Monday, “The attorney for Courtney Smith, ex-wife of former Ohio State WR coach Zach Smith, told me Monday her client wants to fully cooperate w/school’s investigation of Urban Meyer. She said no one w/the university ever spoke w/her regarding the 2015 incidents.”

Well, this isn’t good news for OSU because it means either Meyer lied about reporting the incident, or claims of domestic violence were never investigated after being reported up the chain of command. Either way, it’s not a great look, and it could easily cost someone’s job.

The more days that go by, the more I continue to think Meyer keeps his job. I spoke to somebody last night who has their finger on the pulse of the college football world, and he agreed. At this point, we both found it unlikely Meyer would be fired.

That could all change, however, if he’s now caught about lying about reporting the alleged 2015 incident of domestic violence. Now, if he did report it and there’s a paper trail, then the responsibility would fall on somebody else. The investigation is expected to be finished in under two weeks. We’ll all get our answers then.
