The Passing of a Legend and Giant-James Webb

Michael F. Shaughnessy –

I was quite saddened yesterday to hear about the passing of James Webb this past Friday. Jim Webb was a singular leader in the field of gifted education, and has been instrumental in the formulation of SENG ( Supporting the Emotional Needs of Gifted) .  Jim worked tirelessly mentoring individuals, consulting with colleagues, presenting at conferences, and serving as publisher for Gifted Potential Press.

I personally am very saddened by this news. He was a great friend, mentor and colleague.

A memorial website has been set up by his family where those who knew him or worked with him may share their condolences.  I would encourage you to review what so many have said about this individual.

At times like this, one says “ he will be missed “, but not only will he be missed but his leadership, his collegiality, his support for colleagues, his advocacy, and his quiet smile and caring, compassionate soul will be missed. He was a supportive mentor and a shining light for many in the field.

I am fortunate enough to have had many lunches with him, and conversations and been impacted by his work and influence.

I can only hope and pray that many others will continue his work and advocacy on behalf of the gifted, talented and creative children out there.
