The Passing of Andy Griffith

Michael F. Shaughnessy –

I have just learned that Andy Griffith has died. I guess he will not be celebrating July 4th tomorrow. He will be missed. I suspect that not only will he be missed, but some of the values that he personified will be missed. Mayberry R.F.D. was small town America, where people were courteous, cared for each other, and lived together peacefully. Many American values permeated the show, and many Americans grew up around Barney Fife, Opie, and all the rest. They all contributed to a generation that believed in respect, hard work, and cooperation. Tolerance was abundant and Andy and company dealt with the trials and tribulations of life with humor. I know that many individuals keep this show alive so to speak- There is the AGSRWC ( I think I have it correct- The Andy Griffith Show Re-Run Watchers Club ) and they discuss the philosophy and values that were demonstrated on that show.
Andy and his friends were from another age- of please, and thank you and courtesy. Andy was a good parent and we all remember growing up with Ron Howard as Opie and his various adventures.
Andy was an American hero so to speak and while he may be deceased hopefully some of his values, and his impact as a role model will live on.

Honesty, integrity, humor and warmth pervaded Mayberry R.F.D.
Education was valued, loyalty was revered and patience and kindness were seen in just about every episode.

There is probably a little corner in heaven for all those that have gone before Andy….

I can see the sign up Ahead…Mayberry, R.F.D.
