Top 5 African Players In The PL

With AFCON 2019 concluding recently and a new season of the Premier League already underway, football fans around the world are thrilled. Premier League provides a wonderful platform to players of all nationalities to play for its clubs. African players have had a huge role to play for their clubs over the years. Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba, Kolo Toure and Samuel Eto’o are just a few who have graced the PL with their presence. Let’s have a look at African Players to look out for in the 2019-20 season of the PL.

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane is a winger who plays for Liverpool in the PL. From Senegal, Mane has been an impact player in the league for several years now. He has won the Golden Boot award in the 2018-19 season, scoring 22 goals and almost taking Liverpool to the top of the table at the end of the season. However, Mane saw success when Liverpool won the Champions League title with him being an integral member of the squad and also finishing second in the Premier League Table.

With Senegal too, Mane had a great year which saw him reaching the AFCON finals only to lose out to Algeria.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is a forward who plays for Liverpool and represents his nation, Egypt at an International level. His heroics over the past 2 years have made him a world class player and the centre of attraction in the footballing world.

Now a Champions League winner, Salah is now a 2 time Golden Boot winning player of the PL. He has been the league’s top scorer for the 2017-18 as well as the 2018-19 season. For Egypt too, he has played phenomenally, leading by example and scoring in situations where he is required to deliver.

Riyad Maharez

Riyad Maharez is a right winger/midfielder who plays for Manchester City in the Premier League and represents Algeria at the international level. The past few years have been unbelievable for Maharez who has won almost every title that has come his way. He was an integral part of the Leicester City squad that won the PL trophy defying all odds and shocking many.

Maharez then moved to Manchester City and has won a bunch of trophies with them. The Community Shield trophy of 2019 is the latest addition to his accolades having already taken Algeria to the AFCON title in 2019.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

Hailing from Gabon in Africa, Aubameyang is a striker who plays for Arsenal in the Premier League. The joint top-scorer of the league in the 2018-19 season, he shared the Golden Boot award with Salah and Mane. All these players represented African nations as well as the growth in the footballing prowess of the continent.

Nicolas Pepe

A new entry in the Premier League, Nicholas Pepe is a striker who plays for Arsenal and the Ivory Coast national team. Pepe grabbed headlines with a 80 million € transfer that saw him joining Arsenal from LOSC Lille. There is no doubt that he is a talented player, but it will be interesting to see how Emery uses him in the 2019-20 season of the PL.
