Colleges and universities are hardly a bedrock of political or ideological neutrality, which could speak to why the Trump re-election campaign launched its “Make Campus Great Again” program on a university campus. The program started with its first event at the University of Akron, located in a crucial swing state of Ohio.

Although Ohio voted for Trump in 2016 by 51%-43% over then-candidate Hillary Clinton, it appears that the campaign is not taking the state for granted in 2020. The event was organized by Trump Victory, which is a joint organization managed by the Trump re-election campaign and the Republican National Committee. The Ohio chapter of the Federation of College Republicans plan to hold similar events at Ohio colleges and universities to recruit and train activists for the 2020 election.

According to the Daily Wire, there was more attendance than anticipated since multiple attendees had to stand up due to lack of chairs.

The College Democrats of Ohio said that President Trump “is not welcome on our campuses” and criticized the Trump administration for allegedly protecting for-profit colleges and allegedly “attacking Title IX protections,” the latter of which we at Accuracy in Academia have debunked. We have reported on multiple stories surrounding Title IX enforcement under the Obama administration, when universities and colleges ignored the constitutional rights to due process and a fair trial at many universities and colleges.

With the crowded Democratic Party primary candidates vying for the nomination, the Democratic Party appears to not be as united as the Republican re-election efforts are at this point, about fourteen months from Election Day 2020. Programs such as “Make Campus Great Again” are an interesting effort to combat liberal bias on university and college campuses.
