“Trump’s Possible Nominee to U. S. Supreme Court: Judge Barbara Lagoa”

By Donna Garner

I have no idea whether Judge Barbara Lagoa will be Pres. Trump’s nominee to the U. S. Supreme Court although she appears to be on his short list. I decided to try to find out more about Judge Lagoa and watched the following two videos plus read her bio on the Florida Supreme Court website.

Judge Lagoa, as a Hispanic and a Cuban American, understands on a personal level the brutality of Communist Dictator Fidel Castro because her parents fled to America to escape his regime.  Barbara Lagoa is firmly committed to the Rule of Law and strictly interprets the Constitution the way it was written.

She is 52 years old and would be the youngest judge on the Supreme Court.  She has already been vetted and confirmed in a bipartisan vote by the U. S. Senate because she was nominated by Pres. Trump to serve on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Dec. 2019 where she serves today.

Previous to that appointment, she was chosen in May 2019 by Gov. Ron DeSantis to serve on the Florida Supreme Court.  “On May 10, 2019, Barbara Lagoa was invested as the 87th Justice of the Florida Supreme Court…Friends and family praised her hard work, her dedication, and her commitment to the rule of law. They remembered her parents’ flight from Cuba to escape tyranny and her family’s belief that Barbara Lagoa would fulfill the American dream.”

VIDEO #1:  Starting at marker 13:16, Magistrate Judge Becerra (who is Judge Lagoa’s good friend) offers personal remarks (many of which are very humorous) at Barbara Lagoa’s investiture ceremony:

VIDEO #2:  At marker 5:10, Gov. Ron DeSantis explains his appointment of Judge Barbara Lagoa to the Florida Supreme Court; and she begins to speak at marker 13:15:

Here is a brief bio of Barbara Lagoa which is found on the Florida Supreme Court website:

Judge Lagoa truly is an exceptional person with a unique background; and it is clear that she is a woman of faith, prayer, and family.  She stands firmly for the Rule of Law.
