U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan criticizes Bobby Jindal’s Common Core lawsuit

Sep 21, 2014 by

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan mostly dismissed Gov. Bobby Jindal‘s federal Common Core lawsuit against the Obama administration as petty politics during an interview with Yahoo! Screen.

“Take politics out. Take presidential ambitions out. Let’s just do the right thing for children,” said Duncan, implying that Jindal’s potential presidential run in 2016 is driving the lawsuit.

Jindal announced late last month that he would sue Duncan and the U.S. Department of Education directly over the Common Core academic standards. The lawsuit followed an initial loss for the governor in state court over the use of a Common Core test in Louisiana, though Jindal is appealing that ruling.

“He had a couple of unsuccessful lawsuits in Louisiana. We’ll see what happens in court here,” said Duncan, of Jindal, in the interview.
