Wake Up America!

We have four months before the presidential election to wake up and vote for our collective futures.

While every election is important, most would agree that with the challenges facing the world from the global pandemic and the economic tsunami it has unleashed, including a rising and aggressive China, the flexing Russia’s muscle, global warming, an unstable North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria along with racial tension in the streets of America – this is the most important election of our lifetime.

The political polarization and division in America today is palpable. We are witnessing the spread of a global pandemic that has largely been tamed in other nations, yet rage on in the U.S. because some want to drape themselves in political ideology rather than wear a damn face mask that public health experts have determined (along with practicing social distancing and vigilant hand washing) would help slow the spread of the deadly disease.

We have some fundamental and serious issues to grapple with as a nation if our fragile republic is to survive. As Honest Abe told us centuries ago, “a house divided against itself will not stand.” The house that patriots, ordinary citizens and enslaved people helped to build is wobbly today.

Aside from global issues that are casting a dark cloud on our future, our internal domestic issues are red hot and ready to explode. The anger over racial injustice, fear and trepidation over the tanking of our retirement saving, rising unemployment, failing education systems , lack of job training that prepares people for our futures and not our past and jobs, that if you are lucky enough to to have one, don’t pay enough to cover your rent, your health insurance bill and the responsibly to care for your family. The anger, general sense of insecurity and uncertainty about the future is bubbling in the streets across America.

Complacency Is Our Enemy.

I welcome protest over apathy. Truth, facts and and science matter.

If we stop expecting the truth, facts and rule of law from our democratically elected officials — what is the point?  Once you give in to an authoritarian tyrant, there is no turning back. If you give up one step, then another, then another; in the end, there are no steps left to give. If we don’t push back tyrants will slowly squeeze the life and liberty from your soul.

We are becoming so polarized in America. Far too many of us have fallen into the category of either praise or fear-based silence. Silence against foolishness, lies, propaganda, distortion of the truth and the rule of law that is dangerous to our freedom and the very fabric that many have given our blood, sweat and tears to build.

As divided as we are as a nation today, sadly and pathetically depending whether you are from a Red or Blue State, favor Biden or Trump or you lean Democratc or Republican, you likely think the above statement is describing the other side.

We have become so myopically political, self-absorbed in our own internal tribal behavior, we appear incapable of stepping back and reflecting on a greater public good.

The attitude and lack of understanding and empathy for other points of view that is so prominent in America today reminds me of the Carly Simon song: “You’re so Vain”.

The refrain in the song captures the politics in America well: “You’re so vain

You probably think this song is about you

You’re so vain (you’re so vain)

I’ll bet you think this song is about you

Don’t you?

Don’t you?”

Silence Kills Freedom and Democracy

Silence against foolishness, lies, propaganda, distortion of the truth and the rule of law is dangerous to our freedom.  I thank the youth of our nation who have stopped tbe silence.

It our collective responsibility as citizens to write the next chapter, to build a more perfect union.

We desperately need a leader who can bring this nation together around a shared vision and common agenda that lifts all boats.

Our choices, are Biden and Trump. It is the American people’s choice.

The people, those who exercise their responsibility as a citizen and vote on November 3rd, need to break the tyranny that has a grip on our nation’s soul.

Please stay engaged, register to vote and vote November 3rd – or liberty will be history.
